LC & Partners Engineering Consultants have been appointed by Zakum Field Development Company (ZADCO) for the provision of consultancy services for Zirku Airport Runway Strip Integrity Design.
LC&P shall carry out extensive non-destructive investigations of the current conditions of the existing paved areas along the airport runway, taxiways and main apron and subsequently develop the new pavement design and the complete engineering detailed design for the refurbishment works required to upgrade or replace the existing paved areas.
Zirku Island is located in the Arabian Gulf Sea approx 75 nautical miles north west from Abu Dhabi city. The island is the operating base of ZADCO, hosting a permanent population of around 4,000 people. Zirku Airport (OMAZ) was one of the first facilities constructed at Zirku Island more than 30 years ago and since then it has been supporting fixed wing flights from Abu Dhabi to Zirku and helicopter operations, currently registering 2,600 and 5,000 ATMs respectively on an annual basis.
The airport runway has recently undergone major extensions in both ends, bringing the overall length from 1,200 to 1,920m. LC&P’s scope will be focusing on the upgrading of the original infrastructures, which have been in operations for more than 30 decades.
